I went searching for a new background. Sorry about the snow flakes but they came with the background. It has been so darn cold and high winds Wed. and it calmed down yesterday but it was cold. This old house serves us well but when the wind blows hard and it is so cold the front of the house, here in the room I have my computer, and the area from about half way down the living room gets chilly because the pipe that carries the heat is the farthest from the furnace.
Connie stopped by from a meeting and dropped off a carafe to try to keep Joes coffee warm.. She may be overweight and short but she looked really nice. Had just came from a meeting. I would love her regardless of weight as long as it does not cause health problems. Their house is all electric and last summer their air conditioner went out when it was 110. They got that fixed and then night before last their furnace quit. She was all wrapped up in a afghan on the couch where they have a gas fireplace so she was toasty warm. She heard Mike say “our thermostat is not working”. It is just black. Mike discovered it when he went in his bathroom and used a cold commode. That word sounds old fashioned but when you think of the chamber pot, it is not so old fashioned. I don’t mind saying if it was freezing cold and you woke up during the night and your privy was outside, that chamber pot looked really good.. I bet a lot of people would not know what I was talking about. Being 82 has its good points. Back to the furnace problem, the repairman said it is probably going to start giving them trouble off and on and would probably need replaced in about 5 years. The lowest price they could start at is 6,000.00 dollars. We had replaced ours a few years back and we have gas and it was about 450.00 and fortunately we were both still working. Then the following summer we added air conditioning to it. First time we ever had central air. Joe really liked it until he had heart surgery, now he is cold and it is ok in winter because he has a flannel shirt and a sweater while I the house. But come summer, he thinks I don’t need to keep it so cool. We keep it set on 70 or 72. It is just comfortable for me and he freezes. We do not use the recommended settings of 80. May as well not have air.
Hi Lucy, We had a few snowflakes falling yesterday, Did you send them down here? Lol. It is quite cold this morning, but should be warmer in a few days. I may just stay inside until then.lol.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Connie is a very pretty lady. I bet she is still "your little girl". I know mine are,to me.
(I got your message this morning...no problem :)...)
Smiles from across the chilly miles...lol.
$6,000 sounds awfully high. But you cannot judge from different parts of the country. I know it has been awhile, but an entire new system duct-work and all would cost me between $2k and $3K whether gas or elec. I prefer Gas when I can get it. But the utility companies are working to raise the price so there will be no difference in operating costs(I think).
ReplyDeleteWell I have found a difference in our families. Our mates, you and me, are COLD natured. Sherry hates the cold, I tolerate it. hahahaha
Stay warm out there, I'm getting cold just looking at that 10 degrees on your weather gadget.
Here in Western PA they got the forecast 2/3 right. The weather people call for 3-5 inches of snow, we got about 1/2 inch. The temperature was to drop, and it did. The a howling, blustery wind was to come, and it awakened me last night.
ReplyDeleteI am going to see if this reply thing is gone.
ReplyDeleteHi Lucy,
ReplyDeletelol..we had 50 degrees one day and the next, cold, wind and snow..The roads have been so slick..
I sure don't blame you for having Joe drive you to your appointment:)
Hope you and Joe stay warm:)
