First day of School

I remember Alan, my first born born, the shyest of all the kids.  He was painfully shy as it turned out.  Instead of the teacher taking the time to let him get used to the environment the 3rd day of school she called me and said “you may as well come and get him”>  He won’t even play at recess.  I had the car that day and I drove in to the school where you could see the kids and Alan was standing up against that big brick wall of what must have been to him gigantic.  It broke my heart and I could not cry because he was so close to tears himself.  I talked to the teacher that day after school.  And  I asked her, did you talk to him and work with him a little.  He is shy but he needed a little extra time getting to know the kids.  The way she said “he won’t even  play at recess” was like she was  not going to be bothered with this stupid kid.  Of course this mothers hackles were up so I went to the principal.  He agreed to giving him a chance to get used to not having a sibling with him.  If he stands by the wall and observes he will come around and their will be another shy boy or girl he will spot and all will click and it did but believe it or not they failed him in Kindergarten.  It was the best thing he could have happen.  Larry went into kindergarten the next year and before the first week was up Alan had all kinds of friends and Larry made friends easily.

That breaks my heart. I am mad at that teacher for not being more kind. That wouldn't happen nowadays in school - there is help.

It is amazing a person with an attitude like that would choose a profession of teaching where compassion is needed so much. Yeah, I can imagine the hackles were up!!!
STUPID COMMENT by a teacher....

Some people shouldn't be teachers. I don't blame you for being upset.

I agree with Paula, some shouldn't be teachers. You must have lived further away from school than we did...I just asked to go to the bathroom and when the coast was clear made a run for home...ha. The P.E teacher in front of the school caught me but I wiggled loose and kept running. All for naught, next door neighbor seen me sitting on gas meter and called Mom and I was taken back to school. But I had a good teacher, just didn't want to stay at school I guess. Have a great day! Sheila

I agree some should not be teachers.
If they don't know how to deal with
Children get a different job.

I know it is hard on the child that
is shy and then when treated like
that things get worse. Glad you
spoke up she needed to have a good
talk form the principal

The teacher should have been more compassionate and done her part. I am glad it worked out in the end.
